Kate Cosentino Radiates Vulnerability in Her Ode to Generational Love: “Proud of Me”

"Proud of Me" serves as a heartfelt reflection, capturing the tenderness of a mother's unwavering love and support within a contemporary folk-pop composition, perfectly timed for Mother's Day.

NASHVILLE, TN (April 17, 2024) – Kate Cosentino's latest single, "Proud of Me," arrives on streaming platforms May 10, marking the next milestone in her artistic journey defined by insightful lyrical depth and the exploration of her unique musical identity. The track contains a fusion of folk-pop elements, evident not only in the subtle inclusion of banjo but also in its organic and dreamy atmosphere created by finger-picked guitar melodies. Drawing inspiration from contemporary folk artists like Bon Iver and Phoebe Bridgers, the track embodies a modern twist on traditional singer-songwriter storytelling. Cosentino began the songwriting process by reflecting on her recent marriage and considering how her career as a musician would adapt to her life as a newlywed. Initially focusing on the quirks and imperfections that may annoy her husband, she found herself drawn to the unwavering love and support she receives from her mother. As she explored the theme of unconditional love, Cosentino aimed to capture the unique bond between mothers and their children. Inspired by her personal experiences, she emphasizes that love can extend past one’s personal flaws. She hopes the song will resonate with individuals who have experienced similar steadfast love from their mothers, fathers, partners, or friends.

When further describing her hopes for the track, Cosentino shares, “I hope this song makes people call their moms! Whatever person in their life who has shown them unconditional love - in their worst times, their meanest times, etc. I hope they call them. Send them a note. Thank them for their support. I also hope it helps people go a little easier on themselves - we all fail. We all under perform. We all have bad habits that annoy the people close to us.”

The single’s cover art, showcasing Cosentino, her mother, and her grandmother, embodies generational love, while also serving as a visual testament to the enduring bonds of family.

The track was penned solo by Cosentino and produced in collaboration with Jo Mackenzie, an exceptional producer hailing from Kansas City. Together, the duo crafts a track that embodies stylistic elements reminiscent of Dodie and Sara Bareilles. As "Proud of Me" makes its debut on streaming platforms just in time for Mother's Day, Cosentino powerfully underscores the enduring nature of a mother's endearment through her profound lyricism and introspection.

“Proud of Me” will be available on all major streaming platforms May 10.
