Olivia Dolphin’s Indie Rock Pop Anthem “Not Perfect” Unleashes the Power of Imperfection

“Not Perfect” roars as an upbeat anthem, boldly proclaiming the ownership of one's imperfections. With its dynamic indie rock arrangement and commanding pop vocals, the track delivers a powerful fusion of raw authenticity and unapologetic self-expression.

PROVIDENCE, RI (April 10, 2024) – Rising singer-songwriter Olivia Dolphin is set to release her new single, "Not Perfect," on May 10. The track serves as a raw and empowering anthem that challenges conventional expectations of perfection and embraces the beauty of imperfection. With its powerful lyrics and dynamic instrumentation, "Not Perfect" resonates with themes of self-awareness, liberation, and the courage to embrace one's true self. Dolphin's strong, gritty vocals, reminiscent of artists like Ingrid Michaelson and Alanis Morissette, delivers a message of authenticity. Describing the single, Dolphin explains, "It's a shout-along anthem. 'Not Perfect' is my way of owning up to my flaws and embracing them without the need for constant self-improvement. In a world that glorifies perfection, I wanted to create a song that celebrates imperfections and encourages listeners to do the same."

For a while, Dolphin focused on crafting songs that spoke of resilience and hope throughout the changes and challenges of life. But, recognizing life’s complexity, she felt compelled to explore a different narrative. This particular song was written while Dolphin was on the brink of a significant and new chapter: moving in with her partner. In the weeks leading up to their move, Dolphin’s vulnerabilities surfaced, manifesting in a candid acknowledgements of her faults. Avoiding the temptation to soften the edges with promises of change or growth, Dolphin confronts her tendencies head-on, embracing flaws as a part of who she is.

Produced and mixed by Emma Newton, and mastered by Brad Krieger, "Not Perfect" was crafted at the esteemed Big Nice Studios in Lincoln, RI, where Dolphin and her collaborators poured their souls into every note. This single marks the beginning of a larger rollout leading up to Dolphin's highly anticipated album release later this fall. Audiences can expect two additional singles to be unveiled in the coming months, each offering a glimpse into the depth of Dolphin's musical repertoire.
