Remix Producer Lonelez Spices Up Taylor Swift’s “Willow” With Twice Viral Reggaeton Remix
Invigorated by the steady heartbeat inherent to Reggaeton music, Lonelez’s take on “Willow” has resonated with over a million listeners across the U.S. and South America who have found themselves infatuated with the seamless fusion of Latin Music with the once soft folk-pop hit.
HARTFORD, CT (December 13, 2022) - Producer Lonelez makes waves across the Americas with his twice viral reggaeton remix of Taylor Swift’s ‘Evermore’ hit, “Willow.” Spliced with features from Latin artists Ozuna and Wisin, Lonelez injected an infectious, warm energy into a once somber folk-pop track that has since found itself as the highest searched song on Shazam in Mexico, Chile, and Ecuador. The remix first went viral in 2020 after its release on YouTube, and soon began taking over TikTok; with dozens of videos having gone viral and the sound having been used over 20k times on TikTok, listeners found themselves infatuated with this sonic refresh they did not know they needed. The remix soon garnered the attention of a variety of esteemed Latin and international music media like Telehit and Magnetic Magazine that praised the contagious danceability added to the ‘Evermore’ favorite. Wisin himself, along with a variety of other major Latin influencers, posted to socials about the remix among the thousands of listeners also dancing along in their own videos. Despite having earned significant attention in 2020, the remix is resurfacing at the end of 2022 for a second wave of virality.
Lonelez recalls hearing how the original track from Swift lent itself well to Latin rhythms when he first came into contact with it. When he decided to experiment with that concept, he quickly found that the song melded almost effortlessly with a traditional Reggaeton arrangement. One of the characteristics of the ‘Evermore’ album that allowed so many of its songs to fit into Latin styles was the minimalist production and consistent use of acoustic guitars. Lonelez took significant inspiration from Shakira and Alejandro Sanz’s “La Tortura” that similarly embodies the reggaeton rhythm in conjunction with acoustic and flamenco guitars. The guitars on the original arrangement of “Willow” held strong for Lonelez; he decided that his work while remixing the track would focus heavily on adding more percussion and recognizable bass lines that people could really move to. While the remix is a reggaeton arrangement at its core, it also embodies sounds from all over the world; Vallenato-inspired and Arabic drum patterns as well as Jamaican chants sprinkled throughout the arrangement offer a vibrant, flavorful mix of sounds from around the world. Lonelez elected to feature Ozuna and Wisin on the remix because in his words, “whenever [they] make a track together, a hit is born.” He meticulously crafted the samples to fit his remix, refining and editing them until they flowed as if the artists personally recorded features for the track.
For Latine and hispanic swifites, Lonelez is offering a version of Taylor Swift that hundreds of thousands of fans have undoubtedly been craving for years. Even listeners who aren’t specifically Taylor Swift fans found themselves embracing this flavor of her music because they were able to move along to it in a way that they hadn’t experienced on her official releases. Lonelez has released a variety of other Taylor Swift remixes on YouTube (most recently his “Anti-Hero” remix featuring Bad Bunny) in addition to remixing a plethora of other iconic artists. It is evident - given the repeated success across multiple remixes beyond “Willow” - that Lonelez is making a name for himself as a brilliant remix producer with a knack for reinventing the world’s favorite tracks in ways that give them a new lease on life.
