Kate Cosentino Levels Up on New R&B-Infused Pop Single, “The Game”

In “The Game,” every subtle gesture and unspoken word holds weight as Cosentino wrestles with fleeting flirtatious encounters and unanswered messages in pursuit of an elusive lover, all set to a backdrop of punchy bass and quirky melodies.

NASHVILLE, TN (April 1, 2024) – Singer-songwriter Kate Cosentino is gearing up to release her latest single, "The Game," on April 5. Inspired by a blend of 80s video game and baseball aesthetics, the track seamlessly combines elements of indie pop with R&B influences, featuring quirky vocal effects reminiscent of artists like Remi Wolf and Dijon. The single’s theme centers on the pursuit of someone who leads others on. One moment they appear flirtatious, only to ignore messages the next. Cosentino shares that the song was inspired by personal experiences, reflecting the frustration of being caught in a romantic game of cat and mouse. The track boasts a spirited melody that merges tight harmonies with bursts of frustration regarding the situation. Utilizing a warbly old organ sound, the song evokes the atmosphere of an aged baseball park, fitting the narrative aesthetic. Amidst her As Seen on TV Tour and the recent release of her track "Swim," Cosentino finds herself in the midst of a bustling year. Fans can look forward to an exhilarating 2024 filled with Cosentino's artistry and fresh music.

Cosentino collaborated with fellow musician Brian Sourwald to craft the clever bass-driven track, marking their first collaboration. The duo met at a local showcase and bonded over their shared love for video games and music. Drawing inspiration from their experiences and interests, they created a love song with a twist, narrating the tale of chasing someone who keeps playing with one’s heart. Cosentino hopes the track helps others who are also grappling with an everlasting chase, enabling them to connect with the shared frustration. She poses the question, why participate in the game if one isn't genuinely committed to playing?

“The Game” will be available on all major streaming platforms April 5.
